Navigating Bucharest: A Survival Guide to Accommodation for Erasmus Students

            Bucharest, the vibrant capital of Romania, has emerged as a magnetic destination for international students, particularly those participating in the Erasmus program. Nestled at the crossroads of Eastern and Western Europe, this city offers a unique blend of rich history, diverse culture, and a thriving academic scene.

            For Erasmus students embarking on a transformative journey of cultural exchange and academic exploration, securing the right accommodation in Bucharest is a crucial first step. With its eclectic neighbourhoods, dynamic nightlife, and affordable cost of living, Bucharest is an attractive destination for young students seeking to broaden their horizons. However, navigating the myriad of housing options can be a daunting task, and making the wrong choice can significantly impact your experience abroad.

Where to Search for an Apartment in Bucharest

            We should begin with the fact that the accommodation in Bucharest varies from 300-500 euros (excluding bills) for an apartment depending on the area of the city and 100 to 300 euros for the student dorms (excluding bills).

            Some of the safest areas in Bucharest are situated in the Northern part such as Primaverii, Floreasca, Herastrau, Dorobanti, Aviatorilor where the rents are around 500-1000 euros. Some other hot spots where the young students prefer to rent their apartment are around Unirii Square, Tineretului, Timpuri Noi, Romana Square, Calea Victoriei, University of Bucharest, Cismigiu.

Unfortunately there is also a dark side of the city and we would highly recommend to avoid these neighbourhoods: Rahova, Fenertari, Pantelimon and Giulesti

Trustworthy Websites for Accommodation in Bucharest

            Our recommendation is to find a place closer to the metro station as you’d mostly use it in case it is not a walking distance to your university. Here you have a list of trusty websites where you look of apartments, in case you feel like anything is wrong please contact us and we’ll try to help you with the issue, and remember do not pay in advance for the rent.

Apartment renting:

 

Student Dormitories in Bucharest

            In case you believe that an apartment in Bucharest is not suitable for you or you couldn’t find anything until your arrival we recommend the student dormitories. For Bucharest University of Economic Studies (ASE) there is a dorm only for the Erasmus students where the monthly rent is 150 euros for double rooms, the campus is 35 minutes away from Romana Square by taking the metro from Crangasi or Grozavesti.

 

            For the incoming students at University of Political Studies and Public Adminisration (SNSPA), Technical University of Civil Engineering (UTCB), University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Carol Davila” please get in touch with the Erasmus office in your University, and in case there is no public dorm option we have prepared some of the best private dorms in Bucharest:

  • Arcca: There are two student campuses in Vitan and Pajura, the two campuses offer you single or double rooms, private bathroom, laundry room and shared kitchen. The prices vari from 167 euros for a triple room, 198-248 euros for a double room and 390-435 for a single room. The minimum period of renting is 10 months but in case you wish to stay only for one semester you need to contact them regarding the availability of the places.

  • Campus Est: Campus Est 1 and Campus Est 2 are two private dorms that offer more modern living conditions having single or double rooms with private bathrooms, public kitchen, laundry rooma, TV fridge and AC. The prices vary from 280-360 euros for a single room, 220 euros for a double room and 270-470 euros for an apartment of 1 or 2 people including the bills.

 

  • Westgate studios: Westgate studios is one of the hot spots for the student campuses as if offers access to their private study rooms, restaurant, gym, events space and pool. It is situated 30 minutes away from the city center, 2 minutes away from Preciziei metro, but the student experience is an unforgettable one here. The prices vary from 195-300 euros for a place in a studio and 380-600 euros for the whole studio. It is also possible to rent on a short term starting from 35 euros per night.

Spending the holidays away from home can be a mix of emotions. While it’s exciting to be in a new place, it’s also normal to feel a little nostalgic for family traditions, familiar faces, and the comfort of home. But the good news is that the holiday spirit has a way of finding you, no matter where you are.

The secret to making the holidays special when you’re far from home? Create your own version of the magic. Start by decorating your space, even if it’s just a rented apartment or a dorm room. A string of fairy lights, a small Christmas tree, or even a few candles can instantly make your surroundings feel festive.

One of the best things about being in a new place is exploring how the holidays are celebrated there.
